Re: TEFL with no degree and no certificate?
I don't want to sound like an elitist but I have to agree with Azariah. If a job is going to get done, then it should be done properly. Yes, there are unqualified but natural teachers and there are also teachers who have all the qualifications but not the people skills, but what it really comes down...

Re: Canterbury College Madrid
Hmm, Lucas, I could be wrong but I'm not sure that the College of Teachers is not an accrediting body. I once looked up on their site and yes, you can pay a fee to become a member but it seems to me that there is also a whole page dedicated to explaining how their accrediting body works and it has n...

Re: Any comments/reviews about EBC TEFL International
EBC runs a great course. Very intensive and the staff are very helpful. The EBC courses are the same in every centre they run. I know the French centre TEFL France Savoie and I can only say good things about this school so go for it!

Re: Online TEFL/TESOL
Hi Aruaru, I'm not one of the people you cited in your message but I have been an ESL teacher for 14 years so I wanted to add some of my ideas too! There are ongoing debates for online courses on every TEFL forum and there are always those for and those against it. But I think that, no matter what t...

Re: Structure suggestions for 60hr (non-false) beginners course?
Hi Chocmonster (great name!), I read your post and Lucy's answer at the top of the forum and I have to say that I agree with her. No-one likes to follow a book page by page, suggestion by suggestion but there are some realy good books out there that will cut yor workload in half! I also have a class...

Re: Jobs in Spain
Hi,
Type "ebc tefl" into your search engine and you should get the EBC in spain internet site. Great school, great course and they help you find a job afterwards.
Hope this helps!

Re: Hours of teacher training
Hi Sarah, Of course, I know nothing about your work experience but I think it is important to point out that even if you manage to find a school who doesn't really put too much emphasis on teacher training, how well-equipped for this do you feel? I remember my first training lesson - it was terrible...

Re: How frequently can one get home?
You haven't mentioned where you come from and where you would like to go (maybe you have and I haven't seen it?) but the answer to your question would really depend on that. For ex, if you come from England and are going to teach in France it would be fairly easy to go home even for a weekend! And y...

Hi, Well, you don't say which country you are interested in but there are countries that have a great demand for TEFL teachers and I think you wouldn't have a problem finding a job each in one of thoise countries. I live in France and there are cities like Grenoble, Lyon and Paris where you could bo...

Re: Taking the jump into teaching - please advise
Hi, that's great! I am South African and I have been living in France since 1995. I am also a teacher and left SA not long after becoming qualified. This is a great opportunity and I don't think you're being unrealistic at all. SA is a lovely country but it is limited in the fact that when you're So...

Re: Bad Memory
When you say she can't remember the language are you talking about structures or vocabulary? I have no experience in special needs but if it is vocabulary that she is having trouble remembering how about using flashcards. I know this sounds horribly condescending but children often remember words in...

Re: Teaching a four year old
There are some basics to remember: - make the lessons short. An hour is too long; half an hour to 45 minutes is more than enough for this age group - make the lesson fun - Don't try to cover too much in one lesson - Play various games; don't stick with just one because she will bet bored If you are ...

Re: by car /with car
Hmm, to me "I'm here with my car" means that the person speaking is somewhere accompanied by his car as if his car is a person. This should only be used for people not objects. People do say "I came here with my car" but it isn't correct grammatically. They should say "I cam...

Re: Online TEFL (Not a normal case)
Yikes, if they're not being very forthcoming then I would watch out! It seems strange that they can't answer questions like this as they have probably had them lots of times before. I'm sorry but I have never done an online course so I can't help you there but I think you should go with the one that...

Re: Do I need a TEFL certificate?
I suppose you could do it on your own. A lot of people do (I was one of them for a long time) but a course does help you enormously. It's always good to see and learn how others do it and to be corrected too. No-one is perfect, we can always learn something and TEFL courses do tend to give you inspi...

Ah, there's a question that no-one thinks to ask but everyone worries about! I left South Arica when I was 22 for Europe. I now live in France and I have travelled and worked ALL over. Yes, it is a little stressful in the beginning but as long as you are prepared for your trip everything should be o...

Re: Scam ESL Job Posting
This post really surprised me because I worked for this school. They also have one in Voglans and I worked there as a primary school teacher for bilingual children in the 2007/2008 school year. They were great to work for and they certainly didn't ask me for any money! I'm going to give them a call ...
