Re: Taking the jump into teaching - please advise
Lots of luck with both of you looking for work in your new area. It seems that with a 7 year old you are in a good position for this change. Younger children are more adaptable and easier to relocate. Once children get older they become used to their area, their school and their friends. Its not fai...

Re: alpahbet for young Russians
I am in the U.S. We always posted the letters of the alphabet across the room. The younger kids had a picture with the letter. The picture started with the first letter of the alphabet. A is for apple...then a picture of an apple would be posted next to the letter A. Could you do the same with the c...

Not to worry, you must want the job if you accepted it. Congratulations! They want you for the position since they saw something in you that made them choose you for the position.

Re: What is a 'neutral accent'?
I really don't believe there is such a thing as a neutral accent. I've been many places and listened to plenty of people and conversations. Everyone I've encountered has a distinct sound in their voice. Some are more familiar to me and my heritage but that does not mean that it would be neutral to o...

Re: Help!! 6hours business English Every day
This is one motivated student. Lots of luck with him. It sounds like a lot but its only for one week. Just be yourself and I bet he would appreciate all your conversation in Spanish. This'll help with the learning and cause him to be mindful of how the language sounds not only how to write and read ...

I would use google to search for an entire listing for the topic. It works and usually provides some ideas for teaching students too.

Re: They don't do homework...
If a student has to hand in their homework, what about returning the homework with a sticker on it. We all love stickers. Watch how quickly the "They don't do homework..." students all of the sudden start bringing in something. Then you can go further and look for completion, etc.

Re: my student is forgetful
Your student may be more than forgetful. He may have a learning disability. Maybe for now you can make him a "Cheat Sheet". Something to keep nearby. Maybe with a picture next to the sound to remind him/her. Something he can have quick access to while reading. Thank you for teaching.

Those are all great ideas. When I use centers, I leave a word search on the tables. This way when the children are completed with their work early, they can get to a word search and they love it!
