Forum readers may be interested in the newest version (v.03) of Changing Englishes: An Online Course for Teachers (changingenglishes.online), written by Christopher J Hall and Rachel Wicaksono and recently relaunched on the British Council website (tinyurl.com/BCChEng).
In case you don't already know about it, Changing Englishes is a free resource designed to help trainee and practising teachers of English meet the new challenges, and realise the benefits, of Global Englishes.
Its main aims are to:
- help raise teachers’ awareness of the variable and dynamic nature of global, local and individual Englishes and to reflect on implications for professional practice and policy formation;
- engage teachers in the process of developing learning and teaching strategies which respond to the reality of global Englishes but which are relevant for their local and individual contexts.
The development of v.03 has involved a complete site upgrade, introducing a sleeker look and several major enhancements, including:
- completely revised and updated content, reflecting the latest research on learning, using and teaching Global Englishes;
- individual accounts, allowing users to keep track of their progress and receive their official certificate, signed by the York St John University Registrar, automatically on completion;
- integrated discussion and reflection forums for interaction with other users;
- easier navigation to course resources and information;
- optimisation for use across all platforms, from desktop to mobile.
Best wishes,
Chris Hall and Rachel Wicaksono
