Nova

Hi everybody,

I agree with sonnet. I've seen that in other places too: a lot of teachers are on their gap year.

It's a shame because they take lower salaries than qualified teachers which makes it difficult for qualified people to request a higher salary.

NOva

Maybe I wasn't clear eough. What i wanted to say was: if a teacher (or anybody else) doesn't learn the language of a country after 5 years, it indicates a lack of interest in that country. If that's the case, why do they want to stay? I can't make any comment about how easy or difficult it is to lea...

Paying for classes over the internet

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to know if any of you teach over the internet; and if so, how you go about receiving payment from your students.

Thanks in advance

How do I assess the level of students?

Hi Lucy, I am struggling with a task in my module. I find it hard to know what is the level of the learner. I find that different books and internet sites say different things. I'd like a sure fast way of knowing the best way to determine. The problem I have at this moment is that I have been given ...

WHERE CAN I GET EXPERIENCE?

I think the British Council probably told you 2 years' experience is necessary because that's one of their criterion. That doesn't mean it's the same for all schools. You should find out about other schools in Syria before giving up. If you want to get experience, you could always start by giving pr...

Teaching EAP

The director of the school has asked me to teach a group of students preparing to enter an English universtiy.

I've never done this sort of work before. Can anybody out there give me tips, advise me which books to use in class, methodology to read etc.

All ideas and help will be very welcome.

How do I handle an observation?

Auntie Lucy,

As the most experienced teacher in my school, I've been asked to observe other teachers' classes.

This is my first time; I'm a bit nervous and don't know what to do.

Thank you

What can I do with early finishers?

Dear Lucy,

I have a class of 12 - 13 year olds and some of them finish exercises more quickly than others. Then they start making noise and disrupting the others. Can you help me with ideas to keep them busy?

Thanks

Can you allay my fears about classroom observation?

Dear Auntie Lucy, I've just started in a new school with a policy that all new teachers must be observed. I'm absolutely terrified. I've only ever been observed on my certificate course where everything was graded and I failed one of them. I'm afraid I'll lose my job. Can I refuse to be observed? Th...
