Re: Want to go to work in Korea but I dont have much money
Almost all positions in Korea pay for your flight upfront and provide single private housing free of charge. That's standard for South Korea. You will only need enough money for the first six weeks, and it's a lot cheaper than the states. Also, many bosses will give you an advance on what you've alr...

Re: Teaching in China: teacher with tattoos
It's true. In Asia tattoos are identified with gangs. They don't like them to be visible. Probably best to deny having them and never let anyone see them.

Physically "Yes". Financially "No". One must wonder why we have to pay for the flight there if demand is so incredibly high.

Re: What rights do foreign TEFL & ESL teachers have in China?
Be forewarned. Getting a teaching position in China is a little like playing Russian roulette. There are many scams abound. Teachers who exercise their legal rights often find themselves fired for some other related reason. Also not that your Chinese employer has a lot more Guanxi than you. (See htt...

Re: background check
Most schools don't require a background check in China. Never discuss it with anyone. You'd better hurry though. They are thinking of changing their laws.

Jerry, Get CELTA certified. There are many positions in America which require ESL teachers. It wasn't that way 20 years ago, but the population is much more diversified these days.

Be forewarned that some schools practice age discrimination. I just turn 42 and many don't really like that.

Re: Interested on teaching English abroad
Be forewarned that most schools will not hire an English teacher unless English is that persons first language. That said, some will, so don't get despondent by the number of schools that say "No".

You should get an offer with those credentials. Expect around $3000 inclusive. They are very high on themselves, and don't like it when people try to negotiate a higher salary by the way.

Re: Regarding my TEFL
I second that. If you're just doing this short term (that's not the way it usually works out by the way), you can get any TEFL. Most of the time they are needed to satisfy work-permit regulations. However, if you can afford to get a CELTA that would be the best choice. After teaching abroad you will...
