Recruiting an Economics Teacher

Description:

This is a one-year (from March 1, 2021 to February 28, 2022) full-time position with Seoul Global High School (SGHS) through Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE). The contract period could be renewed on a yearly basis depending on performance. SGHS is a specialized public high school that focuses on the social sciences and humanities for 10th to 12th graders. It is located in central Seoul, Korea.

� Pay Scheme: 1,800,000 won–2,700,000 won per month (depending on the level of qualification)

� Successful candidates should be able to submit all the required documents and complete a contract with SMOE prior to their term at SGHS which begins on March 1, 2021. As it typically takes at least a month after the interview to be hired, applicants must allow enough time for visa processing when they apply. The applicant’s position at SGHS may not be guaranteed in the case that the applicant fails to obtain the required visa by March 1, 2021.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENT:

� The applicant must be a native English speaker with his/her citizenship in one of the following seven countries to be issued a visa appropriate for teaching under SMOE.

- Australia

- Canada

- Ireland

- New Zealand

- South Africa

- The UK

- The USA

� A Bachelor's or a master’s degree in an area that is related to teaching Economics such as

- Business and Managerial Economics

- International Business/Trade

- Finance/Accounting

- Statistics, etc.

� TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate with 100 or more hours of training (Those who have a teaching license (e.g. B. Ed., M.Ed.) or majored in teaching are not required to have a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA certificate.)

� Priority is given to applicants who are already in Korea and can visit SGHS for an in person interview.

� Those who are already working as a native-speaking English teacher under SMOE can also apply.

CORE DUTIES & JOB DESCRIPTION:

� Teach 18 to 20 hours per week during each semester.

� The subjects may include some core subjects (social studies such as Economics, World History or Human Geography) as well as ESL classes for students, parents, and/or Korean teachers.

� The subjects within the regular curriculum will be co-taught with Korean teachers.

� Teach at an English camp (either at SGHS or at an assigned institute by the SMOE) for two weeks at a time during the summer (mid-July to mid-August) and the winter (January) breaks.

� May be requested to teach at after-school programs with extra payment.

� Required to participate in school events and help with the administrative work of the school.

� Guaranteed 26 vacation days per contract term.

� Housing close to the school or a housing subsidy of 500,000 KRW per month is provided.

� The monthly remuneration, severance pay, and contract renewal pay comply with the regulations of SMOE.

� Scanned copy of TESOL/TEFL/CELTA (100 hrs) certification or valid teaching license

� Proof of working experience

� After application review, we will only contact those who have made it for the interview. Please understand it will not be possible for us to reach everyone for application results. If you pass the interview, you will be asked to send the documents for the 2nd round to the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education (SMOE).

� GPA of 2.7 or higher is required. Sealed Transcript is required to submit for contract signing.

� Those who are already working for SMOE need to submit the application form only.
