Recently, I was informed that I will be promoted to a management position by my employer. Having never held such a position before, I am a little apprehensive about my lack of experience. So, I thought I would consult board members about this. Are there any books/resources that give information about managment issues, specifically, language program management? Thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Hi Sadebugo,
Youcould put your question into the TEfl Helpdesk forum. Lucy answers that type of question too.

Thanks for the info. I'll check this out just to confirm what I've been doing since beginning the position.

Re: Your First Management Position in EFL
Greetings Everyone,
Can someone please advise me about how to obtain an administrative position in ESL education? Is there a one stop location that lists administrative openings or do I need to contact schools individually? My name is Sherie and my email address is: [email protected]
Thank you.

Hi Sherie
I hate to answer a question with a question, but it all depends on:
- Do you mean in your own country or abroad, and which country?
- What is your present position and experience of admin and ESL?

Re: Your First Management Position in EFL
Hi everyone,
My name is Wina and apparently Sadebuga and I are in a similar situation. I spent the last 8 years teaching English as a Second Language in Bandung, Indonesia, that's including the last 2 years of working as a Senior Teacher.
I relocated to Newcastle, UK in May 2011 and for the past 4 months I've ben working as a Centre Manager at this newly-opened learning centre where one of the courses we run here is EFL.
I've never worked as a Centre Manager before but so far I've managed to get an accreditation for our learning centre and now I need to start raising people's awareness about our learning centre and eventually I need to get students enrolling with us.
I'd really value your ideas and thoughts.
Thank you very much :)
