Hi everyone,
I’m currently working on an activity that involves engaging with learning communities like this one to understand the benefits of language learning. As part of this, I’ve joined two communities: one from a curated list of professional organizations and another that I found through my own research (this amazing group being one of them!).
Here’s what I’d love to learn from you:
In your opinion, what are the most significant benefits of learning a new language?
For students?
For teachers?
How has language learning positively impacted your personal or professional life?
Feel free to share your thoughts, experiences, or even stories about how language learning has opened doors for you or your students. Your input will help me understand different perspectives and contribute to my ongoing learning process.

Re: The benefits of language learning
Hi!
In my opinion, learning a foreign languages has numerous benefits especially for young learners enhancing cognitive development, improved academic performance, and stronger communication skills. It fosters cultural awareness, broadens career opportunities, and enriches travel experiences by enabling deeper interactions with locals. Additionally, language learning boosts confidence, strengthens problem-solving abilities, and even promotes long-term brain health by delaying cognitive decline.
In my case, being an English philology student in Spain, my personal motivation for studying a second language is to learn a new culture, to be able to travel and understand people, their way of understanding the world and communicating. Another personal motivation for me is to know and understand the universal language, especially to have more job offers in the future. Nowadays, practically everyone knows English and learning that language is a necessity. Finally, it enriches me and makes me proud to see that my personal effort is worth it, to watch series and films in English and realise that my effort and work for years to learn that language has been totally worth it. Learning will always be motivating.
