Want To Venture Abroad For The First Time To Asia

Unread post by Darrenc »

I obtained my 20 Hours through TEFL over a weekend back in 2009, and thought it would not be enough to venture away, so i did the 120 Hours course on line with a TEFL company and passed comfortably. It has got to the stage that i am wanting to work outside the UK, yes the money in certain countries are excellent, but i also want to learn the culture and experience the way of life in another country. I have a business degree and have now reached the age of 45, The big opportunities are out there and i have not been outside of the UK in my life.

What i am asking is as i could not undertake a volunteer position at this financial time, so it would have to be a term at least to get the experience. can anyone help on advice

Cheers

There are thousands of non-volunteer positions worldwide. Just look at http://www.tefl.net/esl-jobs/ for example. But there are many more ads all over the internet and in some papers. Google "esl jobs" or suchlike. Some countries require a university degree (for employment permit purposes) but you seem to have this. A TEFL certificate is usually required by language schools. Again you have this, albeit online.

What's holding you back?

It sounds to me like you have the qualifications to teach abroad. With a Bachelor's degree and a TEFL certificate, you can work at most language schools and public/private schools. Decide on where you want to go, and then do some searches online for jobs.

Good luck!

Singapore and Korea pay the most and China the least. Plus China is full of scams so it would be my last choice. http://open.salon.com/blog/china_busine ... d_by_scams
