Quiet students

Unread post by hilalerdal »

Hi! I am Hilal from Turkey.
I have a question that I want to get some advice on. How can I reach the young learners that are always quiet during the lesson? If I do not say their names to get them to give answers to a question, they do not give me any responses. I am a trainee teacher, and so many times I feel bad about this situation. I will be waiting for your suggestions.

I think this question is for online teaching in this process. I have this problem too in my classes but I found a method to deal with this situation. Here are some tips from me to you;
Please especially give chances to speak quiet students ask them some personal questions such as how do you feel?, is it clear for you? (for topic) etc. they should know even if they do not speak or respond to you, you are curious about their situations or their feelings about lesson. Some students are shy and afraid to answers any questions. Taking care of them can help to overcome this shyness for them and in this way they can feel more comfortable.
