2021 UPDATED CHINESE MANDATORY FOREIGN TEFL TEACHER REQUIREMENTS:

The key word here is "Mandatory"and rather than hear it from me, look at the official government information page translated into English at the following link. Following these Chinese Laws (they are laws not "guidelines" as some unethical recruiters try to say) you will LEGALLY be allowed to work in China and not risk being arrested, jailed for 30 days, fined, and then deported. https://reddit.com/r/CFTU/comments/ji7q ... mandatory/

Recruiters who are not honest will try to hide many of these requirements just to collect a placement fee or sell you a TEFL Course. But if you listen to them, you will be working ILLEGALLY in China, and this is what will happen to you eventually - maybe in one month or 9 months. https://youtu.be/9mW9l0-ZdO0

Do not be fooled with false comments (lies) like these...

* "There has been an update that cancels some of those requirements"

* "Those requirements only apply to full-time teachers - not you"

* "Those requirements do not apply to teachers in their probationary period"

* This won't affect you because our school is partners with the Ministry of Education

* "Don't worry we have guanxi (connections) if you have any problems"

* "Not to worry, we will get you an exemption because of the huge teacher shortage"

* "These laws only kick in after your first 90 days, and by then we will get you all you need"

* No big deal, if you get caught you only need to fly to Korea or Hong Kong to get a new visa at our expense"

* "Don't worry, they really don't enforce these laws and if they do $100 solves all the problems"

* Relax, the chance of being caught is one in a thousand" (Actually it is now 50/50)

Good Luck All!

Don't worry, by the time they open the borders back up, they may have brand new requirements! From what I see on all the Expat forums, they keep getting more strict and may even want us to put a $5,000 deposit with SAFEA that we lose if we get caught teaching with fake documents or no Z visa!
I suggest every TEFL teacher take a visit to https://reddit.com/r/TEFLscams BEFORE they send off their resumes.

My gut feeling is that soon they will only want to keep foreigners who have Chinese spouses, and expel all the other teachers, or maybe just expel the Americans because of all the current tensions. That warm fuzzy feeling we had 10 years ago is long gone.
