2021 SALARY UPDATE FOR CHINA



I think you may be talking about UNQUALIFIED wannabe foreign teachers who are not working with real/verifiable university degrees, and/or Serbian and Ukranian refugees pretending to be American native-speakers or someone working at a black market private school without the mandatory Z visa required to teach LEGALLY.

For Legal teachers that are truly qualified the average salary TODAY in 2021 is 31.000 rmb for AP, Art, Subject, TOEFL, IELTS, and TEFL teachers as confirmed by many sources and not just one tefl recruiter who probably wrote the OP to low-ball everyone applying for teaching jobs in China. If you want the CTA breakdown by region look at the above photo chart. If you are earning less, you simply did not negotiate a good contract or you are being cheated by some recruiter who low-balled you and is now pocketing the balance of your salary and splitting it with the principal.

That’s just boosted someone paying around ¥40,000 for a TEFL certificate and a degree in anything in a developing country. As you, or I recently pointed out, that’s x3 the purchasing power in the west, or the equivalent purchasing power of £13,300 - $18,500 pm by an independent (and therefore illegal) ‘union’ in China. No wonder China deports so many foreigners and the ‘union’ should be titled, ‘When gullibility meets greed.’ :lol:

Considering that John has said his China teaching was limited to public schools in Mongolia, wages up there would be the lowest in China, just as they are in Jiangxi and other dirt poor provinces. Here are yet two more sources that confirm the current 2021 salaries are at an all time high.

I would also be curious to know the teaching qualifications and skin color of Louie Brown because China is a racist place to work. Does he have a a real verifiable degree, and not a fake or online university degree? Is he a native English speaker? Where did he teach before arriving in China? Real teachers with real diplomas get the best salaries, especially if you are the color the preferred color of the Chinese. It is sad to say this but it is the truth. It seems all the employers prefer blonde haired blue eyed teachers. Those that have tried to sue for discrimination in China learned quickly that that their visa were not renewed and they were soon deported if they did not leave on their own within 10 days.

You know, there are so many variables about the salary YOU will get offered - and the one that YOU will accept. And all of these factors will determine whether you earn $30,000 a year or $100,000 a year as a foreign teacher...

--- Your teaching qualifications and credentials

--- Your teaching destination (a rich or poor country?)

--- The supply and demand of foreign teachers in your destination country

--- Your work schedule - full or part time?

--- Are you teaching at a public. private school, or for a NGO or foundation?

--- Did you select and negotiate directly or use an agent or recruiter?

--- Were you hire from inside the country or imported?

--- Are you a native English speaker?

--- Can you also speak the local language?

--- Will you do class or VIP one to one training?

--- Will you cooperate with marketing activities?

--- How many years teaching experience you have?

--- Do you accept the first offer made to you?

--- Is your employment contract fair or one-sided?

--- Will you moonlight as a private tutor?

--- Will do do some corporate-training on your days off?

--- Did you sign your employment contract directly with your employer or an agent?

So as you can see, you may or may not get the best of deals if you do not do your own job hunting, application, and negotiation. It is most important to have a signed hard copy of your contract BEFORE you buy your plane ticket. You know, the high salaries we have today in China will probably not stay in the clouds, once the borders open open up again. I expect at least 15,000 teachers to come flooding back in (of the 30,000 that got locked out by COVID). But there are at least 10,000 teachers who were also trapped inside China, who have not seen their families back in their homelands who will just as quickly rush home. So thing will still balance out in favor of the teachers imo. So I anticipate about a 10%-15% drop from the above CTA salary chart, if and when the borders reopen.

No teacher will ever "get rich" working in China unless they own the school where they are teaching! In fact, even the highest wages paid in Beijing and Shanghai at the international schools are still the least salaries paid to expats in China. But you can live a comfortable good life in China on 20,000 rmb a month. But who want to go home broke ore less than $5,000 for all their China efforts? Those expats willing to learn some Chinese however, can triple their earnings in a different profession. Stop being so gullible Vagabond. You are not going to earn the salary of a professionally qualified teacher in an International school with a TEFL certificate and you’re not going to earn $120,000 a year teaching English at Lenovo. Private tutoring will get you deported; you know it’s illegal and they will eventually find out. Here’s your advice about retiring in China when married and of course, you’ll need an independent source of income to see you through your retirement.

There is the option of applying for Chinese citizenship, but it’s rarely given out to lowly TEFL teachers.

Salaries in Asia are low compared to western ones, but the cost of living is also a lot lower. Your second ruqqus link took me to an empty page with no comments. Pure spam.

John you are making some false assumptions. I never said anything like you suggest. You cannot earn any decent salary teaching in China WITHOUT A VERIFIABLE 4 YEAR DEGREE. I never even mentioned a TEFL certificate. I myself am earning almost $80,000 a year doing private tutoring with University Students, some post graduate students, and some high school students. I teach far more than English. I also do 6 hours a week of corporate training. At this point I am 90% self-employed. I recently did some substitute training as a favor (never again!) As soon as I get my business license, I will break the $100,000 salary barrier.

My friend at Lenovo is NOT TEACHING. He is doing marketing of Lenovo products at an executive level. Nobody I know is earning $120,000 a year teaching in China, but I do know two teachers earning that much teaching in Qatar and Dubai.Please carefully read what I wrote above John and try not to twist things around or people will get confused.

But let’s cut to the chase, Vagabond. John, I don't know how much other people are earning in China and how many different jobs they are earning, and I frankly don't care. Once you are in China long enough you make contacts and learn how to cherry pick. I believe the experts who published this chart below, and I am quite happy with my tutoring and corporate training. 1) Who are you talking to?

2) Who in this thread besides yourself ever bitched about any "spam links" besides your resume which you have posted 300+ times on this forum?

3) What makes you think anyone comes to this forum to answer your questions? All you do is antagonize anyone who does not share your point of view.

YOU are the one getting bent out of shape because many people have proved you wrong about your comments about average salaries for foreign teachers in China now and before the COVID hit. Only a TEFL recruiter would not want to teachers to know the real salaries so they could skim the teacher in violation of the law.

CHINA LABOR LAW: HR technicians, job agents and recruiters cannot collect more than one month's salary from ANY employee in China (including teachers).

You have been shown articles from all of the below publications that jive with both the salary charts put out by the CTA and CFTU but you still insist that your paltry Mongolian public school salary is the best you can expect and still be safe. That simply is not true and every veteran teacher in China knows it as do these publications cited above.

ECA International a HR Company specializing in Asian job placement of expats and they forecast yet another 15%+ increase of expat salaries across the board by profession in China before the end of 2021. The below info-graphic shows their forecast for all of Asia. Of course, this is based on the continued closure of borders due to COVID...

China $31K pa (¥30,949 pm) for a TEFL? In somewhere like Beijing or Shanghai, find your own accommodation and pay your own utilities? Yes possible, but certainly a scam anywhere else.

I don’t ask anyone to believe what I say. What I ask is for a list of schools paying huge salaries for a non-qualified teacher with a TEFL certificate and the spammers promoting these anonymous pages will simply ignore that. Just as the links will send you around in circles, so each of the spammers here will take turns in posting one after another.

It’s for each individual to find their own job they’re comfortable with and not get drawn into the world of scams the spammers are leading them into.
