Is a CELTA enough to teach in the UAE?

Unread post by Ash »

Hi everyone,

I am a private English teacher in Japan. I have experience teaching students of various ages one to one, but I don't have a degree. I want to teach in the UAE . I am TESL/TEFL qualified but from what I learn that seems a pretty basic requirement of entry level jobs. What I wanted to know is would I be able to get a job in the UAE if I have a CELTA and no degree? Or if I apply as I am with a TEFL/TESL certificate and no degree? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Dear Ash,

I'll answer your question in general terms and also move it into an open forum where others can answer. I'm not familiar with the UAE; by moving your question to another forum you might get answers from somebody who knows the place well.

A good idea is to look at job ads for the UAE; you can also call schools and ask them directly. Other ideas to try are the IATEFL or TESOL associations in that region. The British Council in the UAE might also be able to advise.

All the best
