Help, tips and advice in teaching English
How do we pronounce the possessive case of singular nouns ending with 's'? For example, boss's, bus's, Charles's? Would it be the same as if they are without the 's? Or shall we add an additional 's' sound at the end?
Normally the 's is pronounced as iz.
the bossiz room
the bussiz brakes
Note that with proper names ending in s, some people (increasingly rarely I believe) add only the possessive apostrophe with no s:
In this case the name is pronounced as normal, with no additional iz.
