3 fun ways to teach adjectives for primary students...

Unread post by Blue Moon »

I like to make my classes fun so I use these three ways to teach adjectives to my 4th, 5 th, and 6th graders:

1) I tell them to have a paper and pencil on their desk while I show them a "People Are Awesome" video and to write down every adjective that comes to mind when they see all the exciting action. After the video, They take turns saying their adjectives and then I ask for another word that means much the same. If they draw a blank, we pull out the Thesaurus.

2) Every student takes a turn to describe the student in front of them with a single adjective that best describes them. Then I use adjectives to describe each of them and they will look up and read the definition aloud to the class from the dictionary. Then they all must us a different adjective to describe me.

3) We then sometimes play "I spy with my little eye" which is a common game you all know where each student identifies something in the classroom by only a single adjective, and the others must guess what it is. I will deliberately bring in strange objects like an egg beater, a toothbrush, tennis racquet, etc on the day I plan to teach adjectives.

How do you guys teach adjectives?

If you want older high school students realize how important adjectives are, take just the first three pages and have the students remove every adjective. Then have someone read the three pages without the adjectives. Then ask the kids if they would be interested to read that book if it had no adjectives!
I suggest every TEFL teacher take a visit to https://reddit.com/r/TEFLscams BEFORE they send off their resumes.

And you can do the very same exercises with adverbs too!
