All IH schools in Eastern Spain to close

Unread post by TheNightBeak »

Dear IH Directors,

It is with tremendous sadness that we are writing to inform you of the
closure of the IH Eastern Spain schools - IH Barcelona, IH Mataro, IH Palma,
IH Sabadell, IH Terrassa, IH Tarragona, and IH Zaragoza. The shareholders of
the schools will be sending out a public statement today confirming that
they are closing and starting liquidation proceedings.

This decision follows many months of efforts to rescue the schools. The IH
BCN Group had experienced financial challenges in recent years but fought
very hard to survive, and thanks to the hard work and commitment of the
dedicated teams there it seemed this might be possible at the start of 2020.
Sadly, the additional impact of the Covid-19 outbreak has proved to be the
last straw.

After nearly 50 years of activity, IH Barcelona, IH Mataro, IH Palma, IH
Sabadell, IH Terrassa, IH Tarragona, and IH Zaragoza and the directors and
staff that work at these schools are all extremely dear to us all, and to
our industry as a whole. Our thoughts are with them and with xxxxxxxxxx, who have
been such valued and active members of the IH community for so many years.
They have touched the lives of hundreds of thousands of teachers and
students and their legacy will live on through those who worked and studied
with them. Their contributions to International House are incalculable.
We will be sending out further communication in the coming week, but wanted
to ensure that the IH membership was informed of this news immediately.
Our immediate focus will be to support the Group in trying to ensure the
best interests of the staff who are now losing their jobs. We are also
aware that these closures will cause concern among industry partners and so
we will be communicating externally to reassure interested parties that
other schools in the network are not affected.

Once this emergency period of activity has passed we will seek to find ways
as network to acknowledge the huge and positive contribution these IH
schools and their skilled and professional staff have made to International
House and the ELT industry as a whole.

This is a very sad day for us all.

Best wishes
xxxxxxxx
