Please help choose best Tefl course!

Unread post by Brent_NZ »

Greetings,
I am a 39 year old English speaking New Zealander with a Bachelor of Education (since 2002), 12 years in NZ classrooms and full teacher registration here.

I am looking to travel abroad to teach English next year (at this stage perhaps Brunei, Thailand or UAE but I'm flexible based on opportunities/salary etc)

What TEFL course is best for someone like me? Obviously I want to increase my skills and employment prospects but I'd hate to commit to a Tefl course that doesn't do me any favours...

Cheers!

Are you sure you want to teach EFL. you could also teach in regular high schools for expat children in almost any country in the world.

You already have the qualifications and skills.

Thanks for your response Susan. To be honest I hadn't really thought of that option - I'll look into it...I guess I'm looking to open up and improve my options and employability so having a Tefl qualification of some sort would help. (?)

I suggest you look into that first and see where you get to. You can also look into TEFL but the work conditions won't be so good, especially for a new teacher.

I'm part way through a 120 hour online course through GlobalTefl - Although I don't know what it'll actually do for my employment prospects, I enjoy the content anyway!
