Questionnaire: How can video games improve foreign language skills?

Unread post by Aschofield »

Hello

I am a student at the University of Surrey, and I am currently writing a dissertation about MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) in language learning. Even if you don't play video games, it would be really useful for me to find out how ESL teachers feel about video games being used to learn languages, whether it be at home or in a classroom setting.

https://forms.gle/kRZfZeEC4hyaVQSP8

It should only take a few minutes.

Thanks,

Adam

I advise all users here to avoid and and questionnaires, surveys, and polls online and at job fairs. If you need to know why, visit https://reddit.com/teflscams
The best TEFL advice I ever got is at https://reddit.com/r/tefl_tips_traps_scams and right here at TEFL.net.

It's literally a google form that gathers no personal information...

It won't load on my computer (in Kazakhstan, W7, Chrome).

That's strange.

I'm on Windows 10, so it could be the operating system causing the problem.

You could try using Internet Explorer or another web browser, that might work?

But thanks for your interest in completing the survey.

I completed it. I don't think the idea is going to catch on.

Nope, it doesn't work on ME either. Maybe it's either blocked by the government here or because I am on Windows 7.

Good evening everyone. I am Russian and have always played ps1 games like Castlevania Symphony of the Night in English before. So I had to learn English while playing the game. Now I live in America and it was very useful to me. I still sometimes use speech phrases from different games. Of course I don't play games now except online slots, but still even on this site there are unfamiliar words.

Story games can provide great context for reading and speaking, as well as conversation skills.

I agree story telling games are good and one teenagers like here in France is "Werewolf" or loup garou in French . It is useful because there is a lot of repetition in it and everyone takes a turn You can start with the more confident students and by the end of the game or games even the least confident wants to have a go.
