Online TEFL course complete. What now?

Unread post by kpdude »

Hello All!

Me and my partner have just completed an online 150 hour TEFL course as we fly out to Vietnam in October with the intention of teaching.

However, we do not feel we are even close to being prepared to begin teaching.

In all honesty the course only touched upon the very basics. Can anyone recommend some kind of strategy for us to prepare? Are there any recommended books or websites we could look at? I know there is plenty out there but we don't know where to start.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Regards, :D

I have only just attained online certification, so I have no classroom experience. However, I searched the internet for local opportunities to volunteer as an ESL tutor or classroom assistant. That should give me the confidence I'll need to take on my own class someday.

It's important to teach at a school with a well-defined curriculum with useful textbooks. Also, you need helpful co-workers and head teachers to provide advice. Your online course was a foundation for what is to come.
