CELTA essay help

Unread post by tesol007 »

Could you ESL gurus in this forum help with suggestions, ideas and refining of the essay down below?

Write about why you want to follow the CELTA course and why you think you would be suited to a career in teaching English. (Minimum of 250 words).

My write-up:

I am writing to apply to your higly esteemed school for the CELTA course in summer of 2009 because of the positive reviews from hotcourses.com and also because of the close proximity to central London.

I will be enrolling on the course as an EFL teacher with over five years classroom experience and also with some other EFL qualifications. I have specialist certificates, diplomas and graduate diplomas in TEFL and TESOL which I did online.

I decided to follow the CELTA course because of the classroom/teaching experience which I’ve longed for particularly in the UK, the course contents, its relevancy to English language teaching, the certificate recognition, perhaps better job prospects in the future and most of all, self-fulfillment.

I am already in the teaching profession, so it’s already my career and I don’t see myself ditching it and venturing into other disciplines at least in the nearest future.

During my teaching career, I’ve developed a strong passion for the daily tasks involved. I’ve come to stay in this profession because of the joy I derived when I see my students grow in their studies and life endeavours. I couldn’t be happier when I receive calls from my students (current or former) telling me about their success in exams, job interviews or further studies elsewhere.

Based on my life and work experience (having worked in different sectors and continents so far), couple with my outgoing personality and charisma I believe I am well and most suited for a teaching career. I look forward to give my very best in the course come August/September, 2009, hopefully do well in the tasks and come out a better and refined teacher.

The task description is not accurately addressed. The 'essay' is an application letter for a course. It reads more like an ad for a course provider and the admins of some boards could be led to believe that it is contextual spam.
I offer any information or advice 'as is' and hope that it has been of help. I am not an admin of this board, and my postings do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the board management.

Check out the items I highlighted and the spelling errors, and probably softening the self praise, and expanding on the target students you would like to teach, would be a start. Try to be original - they'veseen identical scripts many times before - and stay off the format of a letter of motivation; it is supposed to be an essay.

Most course providers aren't really interested in what you have to say, even if they are running CELTA courses, they are more interested in your money than anything else. More often than not, the applications are just rubber stamped by the admissions clerk. By setting you tasks such as these, they are just trying to reinforce their own image of professionalism.

Nevertheless, you never can be sure, so you'd need to expand your article to its required 250 words.

How is this write-up? Remember i'm to write about why I want to follow the CELTA course and why I think I would be suited to a career in teaching English.
I am writing to apply for a place on the CELTA course slated for 24th August – 18th September, 2009 at .........

I am an English/EFL Instructor with over five years experience in 3 different continents teaching Academic English and ESP courses to high school graduates (would-be-employees) and employees in the oil and gas sector. Prior to teaching adults full time,I have taught at different levels ranging from ABC kindergarten to adult professionals in various works of life.

I am particularly interested in the CELTA course at your school because of the onsite learning experience which I’ve always wanted particularly in the ....(country's name), the course contents, its relevance to English language teaching, the certificate recognition, for professional development purpose, perhaps better job prospects with more challenging portfolios in the future, and most of all, self-fulfillment (one couldn’t be more fulfilled or satisfied with a course regulated, assessed by University of Cambridge and conducted by its affiliates).

As you can see from my resume and application form, I am in the teaching profession, regularly honing and updating my teaching skills through online courses and attending seminars/conferences, so it’s already my career and I don’t see myself ditching it and venturing into other disciplines at least in the nearest future.

I believe I am well suited for a teaching career and up to the tasks of the course requirements because of my life and work experience (having worked in different sectors and continents so far and having widely travelled), previous trainings and regular updating through seminars and conferences coupled with my outgoing personality and charisma.

I look forward to the test and telephone interview since I won’t be able to make it to the interview in ..(city's name) because of job schedules, and hopefully enroll and commence the program come ....(date).
