Re: Which CELTA course in London??

Make sure that page is offering the genuine Trinty course - check with Trinity. I don't personally have any experience with the Trinity course, but it is the 'other' alternative to CELTA in terms of recognition.

Generally, most Business English presuppose an intermediate level in English. Logical really, when you think about it.

Re: Mobile phones in class

I have a firm rule: SS switch their phones off. If I see anyone using one, for anything, they leave the room and don't come back. I also regularly teach the correct use of dictionaries, and I don't do with mobile phone apps.

One of our most hotly discussed topics. My immediate advice is to search the board using the search box above and see the previous discussions. Lots of good advice to be had. Come back here if you don't find what you are looking for.

Re: Ideas for a TEFL thesis topic?

I wouldn't be too quick to assume that in other parts of the world, EFL is much better paid than in Latin America. Try Southeast Asia, for instance, one of the major destinations for travelling TEFLERs.

Re: Hamline TEFL or CELTA

I do not accept fake or degree mill degrees. I'm very quick to spot them, and to save embarrassment, the application is declined on some other grounds. To sport a fake degree is a sign of dishonesty, a character trait I do not support among my corps of teachers. Its acquisition may even have more si...

Re: Australia TEFL

If you mean you would want to work in Oz after qualifying, probably your best chances would be in language institutes in areas such as the Dandenong. The large suburb is one of Melbourne's most culturally diverse areas, with well over half of its residents residents born overseas.

Re: Slight concerns about taking the course...

Teaching with a slight regional or even foreign accent is generally not a problem. One of the most popular teachers I know hails from the Black Country (a former coal mining area near Birmingjam, England) and it reminds me of an old Black Country joke I heard 40 years ago while I was working in Tipt...

Exactly. Most of them could hardly pass a PET, let alone follow the TKT prep course and read the instructions on the test papers. Probably not so acute in the countries you work in Alex ;)

Re: Distance Celta- is it worth it?

Ironically, when we did the TKT pre-release field trials among the non-native EFL mainstream teachers who already had a BA in English/Education, we found that they were more like five years off a CELTA!

Re: Distance Celta- is it worth it?

The Distance DELTA is very expensive at £3,000 by the time you've added up all the costs. As Alex says, it's also a great leap beyond the TKT. The TKT is a very low level test of teaching knowledge and is not a qualification at all - it's exactly what it says it is: an evaluation of your knowledge o...

Re: Is February too late to look for jobs?

You don't say what kind of work you will be looking for. if you want to teach in mainstream schools, then you can look up the school holidays for any country on the Internet. Most other forms of employment for English teachers such as in high street cram schools and language institutes, in-company, ...

Re: British Accreditation Council - max ESOL students in cla

Hi. probably the British Accreditation Council at http://www.the-bac.org/ can best answer that question. If you are looking for a career in TEFL/TESOL, remember that the least of the potential employers will be accredited by the BAC, and certainly none outside the UK, and that the number of students...

Re: Resume picture?

What puts me off are the pictures I get from girls trying to look as sexy as possible in very scant bikinis, and boys on the beach trying to look cool with dark gasses, a big bottle of booze in one hand, and a big surf board in the other! They usually go to the bottom of the pile. I have application...
