I think the diversity of background would be a challenge. However, if you have each student give a little background introductory during the beginning of the semester that could be enlightening. Thanks for teaching.

Definitely look for fresh and interesting. There is nothing worse than reading something just for reading. When the story is fitting or at least of current interest, your students will enjoy as well as learn.
