Re: am I too old

I'd like to add on here what others have written that while you may sometimes come across a school with an age policy, it is the exception rather than the norm. More mature teachers bring experience to the table and are less likely to go swanning off and breaking a teaching contract. And yes, teachi...

Re: Picking an online TESL course

There is no accrediting body for Online TEFL courses, and I have never heard of WTEFLAC before. There are accrediting bodies for Onsite TEFL courses, such as through the British Council. If an Online TEFL course claims to be "accredited" it means a). They set up a quickie accreditation website thems...

Re: Picking an online TESL course

Sorry, but that is absolute hogwash. If Online TEFL certificates were not globally accepted then there would be no Online TEFL industry. One point of your post though is true, and that is that the British Council, Cambridge, Oxford, and Trinity College only accept applicants with their own certifica...

Re: Help! Now they asked me to submit a lesson plan

I'm sure this isn't the case with your school, but some of the very cheap TEFL courses sometimes have a habit of failing lesson plans so they can then earn more money with a course extension payment. Begin your lesson plan with the lesson objective. Follow with a warmer. Then the Presentation, Pract...

Fake TEFL course reviews

The question of ostensible reviews regarding product purchases, and why these narcissistic traits should worry you more than you may feel warranted. In the late winter/early spring of this year, a few of my fellow Kerouac-jaded teacher comrades met up as per usual in our local Viennese watering hol...

Re: lost TEFL certificate

Hi there. I would start with the big tefl certification players in Prague, such as The Language House, TEFL WORLDWIDE, and so on. Could it have been a company like Next Level or ITC? Many schools claim to operate TEFL school programs in Prague, but they are only affiliate schools so you may want to ...

Re: TEFL courses

You will be absolutely fine taking an online TEFL course. Employers will only want to see that you have taken a course and it can really be from any school: onsite or online. My advice though would be to try and find an online course that also offers a teaching practice component if you have never t...

Re: What do in the very first one-on-one lesson?

Hi there! I would recommend breaking the ice with learn-by-play game activities so that the student and yourself can interact in a fun, confidence-building environment. To assess their level you really want to be testing them on all 4 major skills: reading, writing, speaking and listening. You might...

Re: TEFL Cambridge - Have I just paid for a fake course?

Hi there! I read your post and decided to do a bit of looking into it. TEFL Cambridge are "powered by TEFL Express" as stated on the TEFL Cambridge website. The problem with very cheap TEFL courses in general seems to be both the poor course content quality and the tendency for these schools to upse...

Re: Picking an online TESL course

Hi there! I think that what readers need to know is that any TEFL course which issues a TEFL certificate at the end is worthwhile. Employers only want to see proof of TEFL course certification and it is highly unlikely that they will ever ask which school it was that you took your TEFL certification...
