Re: Finished Headway for Beginners - what next???

THanks Lucy, I quite like the look of the new English File as it has a lot of IT/Rom stuff on it. I'm also checking out Inernational Express and Headway Third. - all at pre-intermediate. my class is factory staff - are products are 100% export so we have to get them good at telephone English and ema...

Finished Headway for Beginners - what next???

On the recommendation of someone on this site I used Headway for Beginners with a group of very basic (adult) learners at my place of work here in Thailand. I have to say it was very successful, and I've used it now on about 5 separate groups. The problem now is where to go next. - Can anyone recomm...

Moodle - what is it?

Has anyone had any experience of using Moodle?

I'm not even clear what it is, but I have a large workforce who could do with a flexible EL training program.....will this fit the bill?

Re: What is meant by "intermediate" etc??

Unfortunately...I've found that changing from interchange to other books this correlation didn't work....a recent example was International Express which involved a far higher level of ability. I really don't think that publishers, guidelines are worth the paper thet are written on and they also don...

Re: What is meant by "intermediate" etc??

I see nothing in my interchange that refers to "intermediate' etc so apart from teaching the course or trying it out I don't see that it relates to my question, I need a quick reference so I don't have to fiddle around when ordering books....I also don't find the catgories particularly consistant.

Re: What is meant by "intermediate" etc??

As a language teacher you will know that the traditional levels you mentioned are standard international terms, often based on the EU Threshold Levels, and that texbooks are designed at these levels for different target learners from Young Learners, Teens, Young Adults, and mature Students. The syl...

assessments

I'm looking for an "off-the-peg" assessment test. something quick (30 minutes) and simple that won't put of total or at least, false beginners. i have used the "Interchange" assessments but they are far too daunting for my lower level students who feel quite dejected after sitting in a room for 50 m...

We have yet to find a suitable text book/course for adults in industry/commerce who want to learn English right from basics. i need to tackle phonetics/spelling and pronunciation etc in a way that they don't...

Idea for grading of text books....

I've done a couple of test lessons with other books but this of course bites into course time in many ways and I can't go through dozens of publications....maybe I'm on to something here....and should develop an inter publication grading of text books so teachers can look at little symbol on the boo...

Pre-intermediate, Intermediate, etc...what does it all mean?

To Lucy - My problem is a bit simpler than that...I'm trying to change course books for some levels but obviously don't want to introdance something that is too hard or too easy.....most courses refer to themselves in terms of "Intermediate" etc is there a yardstick for this?

Because any teacher worth his / her salt will realise the value of external input and their own limitations. It would also help if they saw things from another's perspective and were interested in relating questions to the educational language needs of their students

Ridculous. Who gets bothered by mobile phones, the students or the teachers? The answer is us, the teachers. Chinese students don't even notice when a mobile goes off and in Asian culture it is acceptable to have your phone ring at any given time; in a cinema, restaurant, business meeting, funeral,...
