Re: Technical English Books

I've had similar problems with finding anything for different levels. During my internet search I also found a series that has different levels: Technical-English-Course-Book - it should still be in stock and it's pretty useful. I have them all on my bookshelf. The internet can be your friend in som...

Re: Does age matter in getting a job?

If an old wine is considered good and retro furniture can be taken out of the attic after twenty years I'm sure it's possible to get a job after a few months' break on the job, especially since those were spent in training. I'm sure that applying yourself even after your retirement will go a long w...

Re: INLINGUA ITALY

From what they've told me, it's quite easy work. You are given a pre-prepared lesson to teach and all you have to do is enter the classroom and you're on your way.
This sounds like easy money, but personally I think this would restrict my teaching style. Not something I'd go after.

Re: Behaviour of korean students + ageism

I only found this article , but I don't have any personal experience on the subject. it seems to imply, though, that being older is actually preferable to being young. I've only ever heard of middle aged men in Japan being mocked for their "oyaji- smell". [quote=Alex Case]The behaviour of the kids i...

Re: Songs in language classes

As mentioned above, I think it's a different matter for different age groups. But I think songs can be used for every age. Elementary classes might learn grammar, the alphabet or certain words better through singing and dancing. high schoolers probably don't want to do that, but you can still use so...

"he's" vs. "his" And Similar Mistakes: How to Explain?

Hi!

I've had the problem of explaining he's vs his to one of my students. Pretty much the same for There/Their/They're. Does anyone know a good way to explain it? Would it be better to give examples or to make a graph? Both, maybe?
Thanks in advance!

Re: When should children start learning English?

Wow, that's really a different point of view! Thanks for the input! I was really only thinking of my own experience living in a country where we have only one main language. I've also seen parents who come from other countries trying to let their children speak the native language. They are often im...

Re: When should children start learning English?

For those the 3rd grade can be better. So I think that 1,2 grade optional and from 3 obligatory is suitable. I agree. The student should be able to fully grasp their own language before introducing another. It's a different kettle of fish when the child grows up multilingual, of course. I've seen i...

Re: Why EFL in Mexico does not work long term

That's too bad. I was thinking of going to Mexico, actually. Do you have experience with any other Latin American countries or know about the experiences of someone else? It would be great to still go there, but I don't have a money tree, so missing a pay cheque would be a problem for me.

Re: Using drama in the classroom

Sorry to see that this thread is pretty much dead. I love drama. I love incorporating it into the lesson because it's so helpful in making the student speak freely. For the seventh grade I would recommend an actual text that is already written. I remember doing the story of the 5th of November so it...

Re: Student Behaviour-global checklist :D

Are you seriously asking this question? Surely there are certain things like different levels of strictness in countries' school system, but well behaved students that like to work with their teachers can be found everywhere. If they don't see the reason in studying, it should be your goal to encour...
