Could somebody from Spain help me, please? A friend of mine is moving to Spain soon and she would love to teach English. She is not a native speaker, but her English is excellent, she studied at an American University, has a bachelor degree and has spent several years in English speaking countries. What certificates does she need to get a job as a teacher in Spain? Thank you all very much for your replies.

Teaching English in Spain

Hi,
I am pretty sure that it would be a big advantage to have a TEFL certificate especially as a non-native speaker. I am German and even the small schools I am working for here in Barcelona asked me if I had a TEFL certificate although my CV showed that I had been working with the English language for the last 15 years and even lived in England and Australia for nearly 2 years.
I can only say from my own experience: Speaking the language doesn't mean that you are able to teach it. Although I have my TEFL certificate and I have learned the language myself doesn't mean that I still don't struggle a lot in my classes....
Good luck for your friend, Frauke
PS: Somebody else might have made different experiences
