Best Opps. Central/Eastern Europe?

First, let me say that I'm new to all this and a bit overwhelmed at the complexity of it all. As I understand it, it's almost impossible for an American to get a position as an ESL teacher employed by some kind of school or org. in the primary countries of Europe. That being the case, I'm seeking suggestions for the best country to combine the following: nearness to Italy or Greece; generally good employment opps.; generally decent living/working conditions.

Anyone care to put forward a candidate?
