Diagnosing dyslexia in a learner with EAL

Unread postby Kathryn » 05 Nov 2010, 21:39

Hi Lucy

I am currently completing my PGCE in post-compulsary education. I also hold the Trinity Cert.TESOL.

I am currently teaching ESOL to 16 -19 year old dependants of migrant workers, one of which I think may experience dyslexia as a barrier to learning English.

Do you know of any diagnostic assessments for assessing dyslexia in learners who have English as an additional language? I am hoping to use my finding in a conference paper, as well as helping my learner.

Any information on dyslexia and learners with EAL would be greatly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello Kathryn,

You could take a look at www.eltwell.co.uk. Ann Margaret Smith (founder of the site) is an expert in the field. You should be able to find something there.

All the best; it sounds like a really interesting area to research.
