Expected pay in China??

What would you consider a 'good' salary in China? I've seen monthly salaries going up to about 6200RMB. Is this enough to live and/or save a little every month?

It's ok for a starting salary in China. I would certainly run away from those 4,000rmb jobs. Do you get free accommodation, return airfare, and other perks and benefits? Many schools offer these.

Almost every offer I've seen includes free accommodation (at least they pay rent; some places you have to pay bills and utilities) and airfare.

If 6200 is good 'starting pay', then what is a salary to work up to or expect if you have better qualifications or experience?

6,200rmb ($900) is ok. 8,000-10,000rmb (approx $1,200) is good and you can get one of these jobs without any teaching experience. For a 15,000rmb ($2,200) job you would need 2 years of teaching experience.

I have seen jobs advertised from 4,000RMB upwards. As above, it's not much fun living on 4-5,000RMB per month although it does depend on what is thrown in. Look around, there are plenty of jobs advertised at higher rates of pay where you do not need much experience.

You can't live on that, much less save anything. Why would someone even consider it?

The problem is that as long as people do consider these shameful salaries, schools will offer them.

from top to bottom based upon experience.

1. Kindergartens pay the most these days in China. If you can find a decent kindergarten, it's a great way to sing-and-dance your way through China.

RMB 8,000 - RMB 16,000 average range.

2. Primary schools can be a challenge. You are actually expected to teach. Either great or awful.

RMB 6,000 - RMB 8,000 (not much range in salary).

3. Junior middle schools and middle schools. Large, large classes unless it is a private school. Often very unruly students and discipline issues. Good camraderie with local staff.

3. Uni's. Light workload, little embargo on outside jobs, so-so housing. The entire range of students.

Wages are the lowest. Don't believe the stories about high end uni job. They don't exist.

RMB 4,000 - RMB 7,000 (the private uni's).

4. Language training centers. A good place to put your life at risk. Some really good, some dreadful, some downright dangerous.

RMB 5,000 - RMB 20,000 per month (EF, Wall Street, etc.).

Lucas above makes mention of RMB 15,000 per month. Beijing / Shanghai IB Schools, private schools, etc., etc. but be careful here too.
