What if you do not hold a passport from the UK/US/Canada?

Unread post by firataltay »

Having graduated recently, I am wanting to travel overseas and work as an English teacher. I am qualified to give instrumental tuition and have considerable experience as a piano teacher. I am interested in becoming TEFL-qualified by taking a CELTA course or going for an internship abroad.

I am bilingual and have been living in London for years but do not hold a passport from the UK (or another EU country), US, New Zealand, Canada or Australia - would this mean that I would not be considered for a teaching position abroad even if I am fully qualified, or would I still stand a chance?

Enrolling to a CELTA course especially is quite a big investment and I would like to be sure of my career prospects beforehand. Thanks in advance, I look forward to hearing from you.

There are some very recent posts concerning native speakers who do not have traditional native English language nationalities. Do check them out. In short, you should not find it a disadvantage.
