Internship - legit?
Hello everyone, my name is Adam and I'm new here. I'm would like to teach overseas next year. Currently I am getting hours at USC tutoring international students in English and I am looking to gain my TEFL certificate before I go teach. I found this program: http://www.onlinetefl.com/teaching-internships/china/ which seems decent but I was wondering if anyone else had worked with this company or another similar program and what their experiences are? Thanks.
Re: Internship - legit?
If you look at the price of the 120-hour TEFL course they offer with this internship program, they're actually charging you over $500 for the job placement service when you can get this for free. Also, almost every school offers free or subsidized accommodation, return airfare, and working visa, so never pay for any job placement service based on these claims.
This program states that you get up to $2,350 for 4 1/2 months, which seems extremely low (Less than $600/month) because wages start at $700/month in China and you could easily get a decent job for $1,000/month plus benefits.

Re: Internship - legit?
Hi madvillian,
This opportunity is 100% legitimate and there are a bunch of i-to-i TEFLers in China doing it right now! One of the teachers even has a blog, so you can hear first hand what it's like! Check it out here: http://www.i-to-i.com/campfire/craigbarber
While you do have to pay for the internship, it not only covers the cost of the 120hr TEFL Course (which is really well priced to begin with!), but also includes the help you get organising the expereince, support pre-departure and while you're there, airport pick-up & a 5 day orientation that includes things like tours, dinners with your group and language lessons!
All in all, it's great for first timers or people who would like a little more peace of mind.
All the best,
Clem

Clem is talking tosh. You can arrange a TEFL course and job in China for yourself with no problem at all, and will come out of it with considerably more money and a more well respected TEFL cert, and have lots more flexibility
