How difficult is a TEFL course?

Unread post by barrybarry »

Hi there, well simple question i suppose.
I ask as I'm thinking of sitting a TEFL course and I don't want to fail!
I left school when I was 15 and worked as a welder for years. I have no basic English qualifications although English is my first language and I've love to read. I certainly know right English from wrong English but when it comes to stuff like phrasal verbs or modal auxiliaries I start to sweat.

So should I give up on this idea before I've even started?

Hi Barry,

if you're willing to study now and do it in depth before the course, you should be fine. Most of the time, teaching is just using your common sense and grammar is something you can study. I'm a non-native speaker and I've taught English for some years, now I'm training to be a Spanish teacher (my native language) and I have grammar problems as well, because in school you're not taught how to use the language as you already know that. So, don't hesistate, if you're motivated you can do it!
