Dodgy schools in England and Hungary

Unread post by Ed66 »

Be extremely wary of Castle Hill International Language Centre in Stamford, Lincolnshire. Not only do they underpay their teaching staff, but they never pay on time. Apparently, the owner of the school, who is also owner of IHH Language School and Vocational Academy in Gyor, Hungary, claims to be broke and has used this as an excuse not to pay teachers for up to three months. If you can read Hungarian you can follow the series of articles on Otto Nagy at http://www.kisalfold.hu

In addition, the school, or should I rather state "cowboy school", makes many false claims in their advertising. On their website at http://www.chilc.co.uk they state that they currently have 100 students from 20 different countries. In reality the school has less than 10 students who are shared by three part-time teachers (who have not received their salaries for January).

Castle Hill International Language Centre is an old rundown building in need of renovation. On entering you will inhale the stench of sewage and in the classrooms you really need a coat since there is no heating (Only the office is heated).

The school claims to offer various courses, yet it has neither the students, the staff nor resources to teach them.

Daily the school is hounded by people chasing for cheques, from host families to suppliers.

At present the school is advertising for Social Organisers for Summer. They are offering just 5 pounds an hour. Of course, this is under the legal minimum salary of 5.52 for somebody over 18.

Take my advice: Stay well clear of Castle Hill, IHH and Vocational Academy.

(IHH must not be confused with IH).

Agreed. But let it be said that that the teachers did their professional best on a sinking ship. The Hungarian owner has no idea of the reality the teachers face, and they are to be congratulated on their sheer endurance.
