I'm a teacher of foreign English that for half a decade has taught business professionals and university PhD students, and last week my school's teacher who was responsible for teaching children walked out without notice. Now, my school has told all of the parents that I have years of experience teaching 2 year olds when I literally have 0.
Now I find myself in a situation where I feel unprofessional and inexperienced and entirely out of my depth and I desperately need help figuring out how to teach young children.
I've been given Oxford's Cookie and Friends (A) and now I'm sitting here with a cat puppet on my hand and I'm being told I need to dance around and be more lively. Trying to teach them is further complicated by the fact that they're so young they can't even write in their own language yet, so I can't even translate or write anything for them.
Can anyone give me some advice that has some experience teaching infants and / or with these particular teaching resources?

Re: Help! Need advice teaching toddlers...
Infants and toddlers benefit from the nurturing and respectful care provided. Teachers are very aware of the particular characteristics and preferences of the young children with whom they work. This care and attention can be seen in the ways in which teachers:
use infants’ individual routines to plan their daily programme;
are attentive and responsive to the needs of children and to their feelings;
maintain well managed and implemented care routines to ensure that children’s needs are met; and
encourage children to develop independence in self care.

Toddlers can be taught to circle pictures; point to pictures; learn how to say simple greetings exchanges and a few simple songs with actions. They can have stories read to them to build a few words of vocabulary. If they are fretful when they arrive in the class, suggest that they bring a soft toy of their own to help with separation anxiety. They will need toilet breaks too usually within one hour of teaching. They like to hold things like blocks (large enough to not cause choking), and like to pretend they are animals-roleplay. Puppets are a good idea too! You could set a series of about 5 x1 hour lesson plans which recycles and recaps the words they came across the week before. They won't have remembered what they learned from you if it was a week ago since their last lesson. Good Luck!
