Classroom Management - Man refuses to participate with woman

Unread post by Poplap »

I need to complete an assignment and need help please.

How do I deal with a man that refuses to participate with a woman.

As a novice teacher I would normally suggest that it is fine and ask another student to team up with the man BUT the more I think about the issues, the more I realise that it is a minefield. How would I deal with such a situation in a proper way?

It depends which country you're working in. If the culture of the country is to separate men and women, I would say it's easiest to go along with it and allow the man to work with another man.

If you're not working in that type of culture, tell the man you expect him to work with all students in the class.

You also need to consider the feelings of the woman he is working with. You need to take care that she doesn't feel uncomfortable.
