Hi

next week I start tutoring a 9 year old girl, but I've never worked with anyone that young before. She is a complete beginner. Because of her age I don't know where to start and I really don't want to overwhelm her. So does anyone have any idea where to start, which lessons to use,....just any advise would be great because of my lack of experiences with working with children and total beginners.

Hope you can help!!!!!

A great way to get to know one another is to start with some games to break the ice and see where she is at in terms of learning the language.

I would also suggest staying away from tons of worksheets and other photocopiable materials. With some imagination and some help from online sources (such as the website below), you can find a ton of great one-on-one activities that will keep both of you engaged throughout each lesson -- something that's much more valuable than simply filling out worksheets.

Kind regards
Shelley
