Which TEFL programs have the best placement services?

Unread post by golden »

Without getting into a debate about CELTA vs. any other program, some of the lesser TEFL programs advertise job placement services. Of these schools/programs, which ones offer the best actual job placement services?

I can't see any way that one person could compare the job placement services of two different TEFL courses - let alone all TEFL courses! With a proper 4 week TEFL with observed and graded teaching practice you can find a job yourself in most cities in the world - where are you thinking of going? If a job placement service was important I guess the selling points of a good one would be:
- Contacts with local schools who don't advertise
- Having their own school(s) which are actually worth teaching in

Alex,

I am either looking at Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, or Argentina. I am hoping to do a 120 purely online course, as I am not able to do any face to face ones.

In that case, it really is impossible to compare and in fact I can't see how they could help. For example, there are many jobs you can get in Japan with nothing or an online cert, e.g. most ALT jobs and English conversation school jobs. All those jobs are widely advertised and any online cert provider who claims to have access to other jobs which aren't is probably lying. Other jobs will demand a proper cert or even an MA, and any online provider which claims you can get those jobs with their online cert are almost certainly lying.

If you could paste in some claims of the online providers you are thinking about regarding job placement, perhaps we could try and judge how accurate they might be.

You know, I was basing this largely off this article:
http://www.all-about-teaching-english-i ... etefl.html

But in looking at the sites only 1 of the 3 even mentions job placement. Any recommendation on these three?

Some course providers like and are willing to take on some of their own CELTA graduates, subject to the normal recruitment process. Obviously this depends on whether they are recruiting or not when you are looking for the first job.The advantages of this are that you don't have to get used to a whole new school and country for your first job, you may well have access to your trainer(s) for support for a while.

This is just one of many things to consider when looking for a course.

I'm not sure there are any online course providers which have their own chains of schools.

About the only way to compare online certs is by the number of lies on their websites, so as I said if you can paste in any claims they make that you have specific questions about we can give our feedback on it.

The best way to find that out is to get in touch with graduates from TEFL schools and ask them first hand.

On this link you can get in touch with graduates from TEFL Worldwide who are now teaching in different countries. Find out first hand what they thought about the job guidance. http://www.teflworldwideprague.com/grad ... stimonials

Here's a link of where others have gone on to teach: http://www.teflworldwideprague.com/grad ... e-they-now

And last some video testimonials.
