hELP! Teaching Topic sentences!

Hey
I have been teaching topic sentences to children in South Korea now for about 2 months (different classes), and almost all of them don't understand. I have have used the class activites such as "put the title of the list into a sentence," "find the topic sentence in the paragraph," and write your own paragraph (granted short) and find your topic sentence. Maybe I am just blind, but I just seem not to be able to teach it correctly. Can someone help??
