Generally speaking, 'students' are those who 'study' and 'pupils' are those who 'learn'. It's common that pupils be called 'students' nowadays, and Burma is not unique. I think it's up to you to decide for yourself how to call pupils of yours; and I wouldn't demand that others call them the way I do. Personally, I call my students 'pupils' and I teach at a University - since the students don't get offended, moreover, they enjoy it, who can tell me that I'm in the wrong?

Cheers,
