Tenses and usage help please!

Unread postby Draper » Wed Jan 04, 2012 7:45 pm

I have answered a few questions and would like to know if I have made any mistakes.

I saw him this morning: past simple
I’ve seen him this morning: present simple

She’s gone to Paris: present continuous
She’s been to Paris: past simple

She went out when I got in: past continuous
She had gone out when I got in: past simple

She stopped smoking: past simple
She stopped to smoke: present continuous

Thanks in advance!

1 and 7 are correct.

There are two tenses in 6 and one of them is correct.

You might also learn to number items where appropriate. It can help in many situations, including the classroom.

Hope this helps.

Thanks matter.

With regards to 6 are the two tenses past simple and present perfect?

If you could explain the rest I would be really grateful (or anybody else for that matter). I'm a bit stuck here and would really appreciate the help.

6 is past perfect followed by past simple.

Why don't you look at the following? It has all the tenses and explains their uses:

All your sentences use only three tenses: past simple, present perfect or past perfect. Concentrate on those three tenses in the link I gave you.
