Hey,
My name is Shirley and I'm a student teacher.
To create a crossword you can either use Excel or do it by hand. I like working with Excel so I usually do it there, if you don’t get along with that program you can always Google "crossword maker". I found a few sites that were pretty good, you only have to type the words and the clues and the program does the rest.
I hope that was helpful.

Hi,
try this site:

I've tried it and found it nice and friendly
BTW - which grade do you think crossword puzzles are fit for?

I find puzzlefast.com relatively straightforward and for creating half crosswords (for a very nice speaking activity) halfacrossword.com

There are 2 main approaches to generating crossword puzzles:
a) Letter-by-letter instantiation approach

1. Give your crossword puzzle a name.

2. At that point, make a word list with an answer and an clue on each line. For instance, "superman: man of steel".

3. Press "Make My Crossword Puzzle!" to create a crossword puzzle utilizing however many of the clue as could reasonably be expected.

4. Print the crossword and alternatively the answer key key on page two.
