A mentor is someone who can help you develop in your career, perhaps because they have more experience of one aspect of English language teaching, publishing or management, and who you can be completely honest and open with because they are not your colleague or your boss. In other words, it is something like a big brother/ big sister role. In helping you, a mentor can also help themselves by gaining suitable skills for a management or teacher training job, by rethinking their own teaching while giving advice on others', or by getting a better idea of how a mentor could help them in the next step in their own career.
