I'm trying to find out the hourly rate for teaching english one-to-one to adults in Liguria (I'll be based in Imperia). The advice I've received is that I should try to look for info locally, but this is not possible at the moment as I'm still living in the UK. My wife and I will hopefully be moving to Italy permanently within about 2 years to start a small business but our commercialista has suggested that, as our business is not very labour intensive once set up, it would be an idea to maximise income by doing something else and she suggested that as I'm a native speaker of English, the 'something else' is virtually self-determined.
Although I'm well qualified generally (degree and Post-grad), I have no TEFL or teaching qualifications. This shouldn't be a problem as I have no intention of teaching anything other than one-to-one on a self-employed basis. I'm also planning to do one of those online TEFL courses with a grammar supplement.
Anyone any idea what I should be charging in a prosperous area of Northern Italy? Also, if someone wants me to travel outside the city limits to deliver their lessons, should I be charging for travel time on top of actual petrol costs?
