How difficult is it to find work in Europe without a degree?

Unread post by AlexOgg »

My husband is currently working as a scaffolder in the Uk and he would like a change of career, so is thinking of looking into doing a TEFL course.
The problem is that he doesn't have a degree, I know that this is a problem is some places for visa purposes but would he find it really hard to find work in Europe generally? Specifically we would love to be in Portugal as well.....would this be a huge problem?
Many thanks for any help

If you are a citizen of an EU country, you don't need a visa. However, the job market in Europe is incredibly competitive and so any black mark on your CV can make it much more difficult to find jobs. The only way past that is to do a CELTA or Trinity, try to get a B or A, then get teaching experience in the UK (e.g. in a summer school) before you move abroad.

Portugal is not a common first job destination for some reason. Spain and Eastern Europe seem to be easier, but for Spain speaking the language really helps
