Jobs in England with just a CELTA

Dear all, I have recently qualified with a CELTA from International House and due to personal cicrumstances, need to remain in London to teach English.

I am coming up against a bit of a brick wall here though, as I sense many schools are able to take their pick of more highly qualified teachers with bags of experience.

I'm trying to stay positive. What schools should I be looking at? Is there a database of jobs requiring CELTA in London that someone could point me to.

Thanks for any advice!
Anish

I've noticed a lot of summer school jobs advertised recently. Although not well paid, this would give you some experience.

Just apply to every job and every school, advertised or not. In places where there are lots of schools, it can be worth going round and handing over your CV in case they are stuck for a cover teacher and so will take you on short notice. And don't forget the suburban schools, e.g. Wimbledon.

And while you are waiting, get as much further training as you can, e.g. going to workshops or taking post-CELTA qualifications like the Young Learner extension or the LCCI Teaching Business.

This isn't meant to be an advertisement, but there's a site which I have used in the past to find UK-based TEFL Jobs called, funnily enough, Tefl Jobs.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

Try http://www.tefljobslondon.co.uk. They get a lot of the higher paying jobs, and you can post your CV online and be contacted by the language schools directly.
