Warning! China PSB using Twitter for ESL/TEFL China Teacher Recruiting Sting Operation

Unread post by Saturn »

Here's what I found on this really sneaky way to find teachers working in China without a Z Visa or using a fake diploma. 29 Foreign teachers were arrested in October in Beijing according to the CCTV news clip. https://www.scam.com/showthread.php?704 ... ost1940299

They have been doing these sting operations since 2014. But lately they have gotten a lot more agrressive with the social media and even putting fake job ads on Craiglist, The Beijinger, Echinacities, Sinocities, and even ESLCafe. The ads are for high-paying fake jobs that do not exist. When teachers go for the interviews they are asked for their passports to make a copy and if they do not see a Z visa in there, off to jail you go. Last year, my GF's roomie got busted at one of these interviews and when she told the undercover cop that she left her passport at home, they sent another cop with her to fetch it! https://eslwatch.info/eslwatch-forum/ch ... a.html#773

Last year they grabbed about 3,000 illegal foreign teachers with this snitch program that rreminds me of some KGB operation! https://eslwatch.info/eslwatch-forum/ch ... art=24#206 I met one Teacher Assistant who claims she made over $20,000 just reporting foreaign teachers to the PSB. She was a bit drunk and was even bragging to me how she was going to set up a ESL recruiting company and want me t invest with her! She told me that any foreign teacher who didn't cooperate with her would stillmake her 10,000 yuan because she would turn their resume and passport scans over to the PSB for the reward $! I passed on the investment opportunity.

I just saw the CCTV news clip about this. It was 229 foreign teachers in Beijing and Shanghai - not 29. The PSB has gotten really clever in the last two years and now when they "detain" foreigners and ESL/TEFL recruiters, they copy their phone contacts and then use that growing database to set up the stings with fake job offers. Three of my colleagues who worked at Gao Si Education got busted and then deported like this.

Last month I myself got a text message out of the blue that said "We need foreign English teachers - 20,000 per month - no weekend work". I have to admit it was enticing but I did not reply since I am already under contract with a decent school with an 20,000 annual bonus I didn't want to lose. But I'll bet a lot people fell for this! Then I saw this the other day http://www.chinaforeignteachersunion.co ... ed-in.html

Since they are now paying the Chinese cops 2,000 bonueses for every illegal foreign teacher they find, I can safely predict that the demand for real certified teachers with real uni degrees will be going through the roof. Hopefully this will mean higher wages for all of us.

Thanks for the heads-up. My roomie says they are using Facebook and Reddit as well and six of his friends were snatched away after following fake job leads that were posted by the PSB on the Beijinger and Reddit. I think the best policy to follow is just find the white listed schools on your own and send your resume to the Principal or FAO.
