As you may have already heard, the long awaited new visa law in China kicks in in 2 weeks on July 1st, 2013. The details and penalties related to this new law can be found at:
http://www.chinaforeignteachersunion.co ... ssues.html
Every foreign teacher already working in China or planning to come to China urgently needs to learn about the new law because the penalties are quite stiff and their is little or no tolerance for violators.
You also need to be aware that the new visa reform makes visa agents illegal. So if someone calls or emails you claiming to be a visa agent, hang up the phone! If you stay on the line you may fall victim to either an identity thief, or a scammer trying to sell you counterfeit documents. We have already seen one of the phony 5 year visas the fraudsters are trying to sell and trust us when we say - they would probably fool a street cop but not a Customs nor Immigration agent. Getting caught with counterfeit visas will get you a fine and jail time. So PLEASE visit the above link and learn the new law well enough to avoid problems that will end your China adventure.
