Possibility of Employment with Criminal History?

Unread post by lytle »

I'm looking into becoming an ESL teacher, but have an arrest on my record. I was arrested 5 years ago for marijuana possession. Does anyone know if it is still possible to get placement with this history, or if there are some areas that are more lenient with things like this?

It's not so much a question of 'leniency'. It depends on who requires the criminal record: the school, or the official departments of the country issuing the visa and/or work permit. You generally won't know until you apply. A good recruiter will look at your current qualities and not at what you did during your misspent youth.
I offer any information or advice 'as is' and hope that it has been of help. I am not an admin of this board, and my postings do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the board management.
