To our teaching colleagues around the world, we want to inform and warn you that over 90% of agents and recruiters will lie to you about your wages and salaries working in China as a teacher. They never get repeat business nor referrals and do not care how angry you will be when you get to China and discover you were deceived. They care only about collecting your signature on a contract so they can get their fee. If you want the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, you need to read these links and if you still want to work in China... contact the employers directly so 20%-50% of your monthly pay check does not go to agents/recruiters. Here is what no agent will ever tell you about working in China:
* If you find your own job you will earn between 10,000 rmb to 20,000 rmb per month.
* If you want to earn the most money negotiate your own contract directly with a private international school and avoid the private Chinese
schools that may be operating with fake licenses.
* Do not agree to any "reduced pay" during probationary periods which is a ruse to save money for your employer
* Never work without having a signed and sealed original contract in your hands in English before getting a plane bound for China. Make sure this contract clearly spells out everything discussed verbally about visa support, working hours, overtime pay, etc. If it is not in writing you will not get it.
For more of the truth, esepcially about pay scales and benefits, visit these links and enlighten yourself.

You should also know that any web site that peddles books, tapes, visa services, travel packages, placement assistance, etc. makes no money unless they get you to travel to China, so they will often say anything they have to, to get you there. BTW... Only 13 countries out of 87 pay less wages to foreign teachers than China. Sweden, Denmark, Qatar, Dubai, Korea all pay 40% more in slaries than China. Below is a link to a local Beijing blog where you can see what actual teachers in Beijing have to say about working there:
