Class Observations

Hi Lucy,

I am a new DOS, promoted after only one year of teaching, and I moved cross country for the job, so I am in a new school, same company. I am getting rather nervous about the observations I have to do. Tomorrow I will be observing a teacher who has been in the ESL field for longer than I have been alive (literally). I know I need to offer some feedback, both positive and negative, the negative of course being in a constructive sense. Do you have any advice, tips, etc? We have a form we fill out during the observation, which helps me to focus on certain aspects of the class and the instructor.

Funnily enough I wrote about this a while ago. You can read it at the link pasted below.

As you don't have much time, the best advice I can give you is to be confident about what you are doing; after all, your employer believes in you. Remember: if you think that the lesson went very well, just say so. It is not always necessary to find something negative in the lesson. If this guy has been teaching for so long, he should be very good (I would hope so, anyway!).
